Description

Hand Carved Northern Saw-whet Owl
Meticulously hand carved and painted by Vern Hesketh.
The owl is carved out of Tupelo and is mounted in a natural Maple burl knot hole

One of the smallest owls in North America. Relative to other birds, they are close to the size of a Robin. The Owl has a dark beak and yellow eyes. They are quite common, but hard to spot. They nest in coniferous type forests of the North. They live in tree cavities and old nests. Some say they sound like a saw being sharpened on a whetstone, therefore the name, Saw-Whet.
