Mike Meier
"Lightning Dancing in Wood"
Mike Meier was in the heating, air-conditioning, and sheet metal business for over 40 years. After retiring he took up the hobby of woodworking. Mike and his wife Karen frequently stop by the Myrtlewood Gallery to choose wood for their projects. Mike recently started burning Lichtenberg figures into wood using high voltage electricity to create some interesting works of art. He likes using western big leaf maple and myrtlewood because the high figure in the wood works well with his woodburning technique. He fills the burns with materials such as carnelian, turquoise, malachite, other minerals and embossing powders. The contrasts with the wood looks kind of like lightning in a thunderstorm.
